MICHAEL SIMON is available as a private consultant for your writing projects.
“Michael Simon is a masterful teller of tales that made me care.”
—Stuart M. Kaminsky
Michael Simon holds a Ph.D. in Performance Studies from the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, and has taught college writing classes for ten years. In addition to his four novels, he is the author of many essays and reviews, and the co-author of the Off-Broadway comedy Murder at Minsing Manor, published by Samuel French, Inc.
Depending on your current needs, services generally fall into four categories:
- Writing Coach. You may be beginning a major project, such as a play, novel, nonfiction book, your memoir, thesis or dissertation. Perhaps you need guidance with structuring or planning the project. We can break down an overwhelming task into small, manageable, short-term goals, and touch base at every step along the way.
I have support when I take on a major project. So should you.
- Editor. I can edit your draft line by line. Depending on your needs and preferences, I can mark changes on paper, send you the edits in “Track Changes,” or just send a revised version. We’ll discuss the level of revision you’ll allow.
- Book Doctor. One of the toughest tasks for a writer is finding a helpful reader. I’ll read your finished manuscript and give you a thorough and useful set of notes. Because of my approach to teaching, my notes are positive and encouraging. I focus on what the author has built and accomplished, and what can still be developed. That done, under certain circumstances (and with your permission), I would suggest or even map out possible solutions for you.
- Ghost Writer. I take on some portion of the writing or rewriting tasks.
“When I was recently struggling with a new play, novelist and writing coach Michael Simon sat with me for hours, literally talking the play out of my head and onto the paper. His focused, passionate way with story, his talent for saying exactly what is right, and finally, his respect for one's own writing process is inspiring. With his mentoring, I broke through my fears and had a finished play within weeks.”
